Roof Work Begins at 5 Corners, Terry's
Workers from the Williams Roofing & Siding Co. began repairing the roof of the building that houses 5 Corners Kitchen and Terry's Ice Cream Shop this week.
Still several months away from his grand re-opening, 5 Corners Kitchen owner and head chef Barry Edelman said he was excited to see workers repairing the roof and rear of his School Street restaurant Monday afternoon.
Just last month, the demolition of the walls, ceiling and floors of both Edelman's fire-damaged restaurant and the business next door, Terry's Ice Cream, was completed.
Both businesses were forced to close after suffering severe smoke and water damage when an electrical fire broke out in the ceiling of the restaurant in July.
"It's going to be a long process, but we are very excited to get back to business," Edelman said, adding that he still hopes to re-open sometime next spring.
Since mid-September, local residents have grown accustomed to seeing a dumpster on Washington Street being filled with debris. Now, a smaller dumpster stationed on School Street is being loaded from above and the effort to rebuild the interior of both businesses is picking up steam.
While workers from the Marblehead-based R.C. Havens & Sons Inc. continue to rebuild the inside of Edelman's restaurant, a crew from Williams Roofing and Siding, a local contracting company, have begun an effort to repair the building's roof and rear walls.
Both Edelman and Rocha said they plan to redesign the interior of their businesses - so when they do re-open, customers can expect the layout to be a little different.
Since the closure, Edelman has kept busy by offering in-home cooking classes and Rocha spent the summer selling cones and cups from the company truck in the parking lot across the street.
