When Does the Ice Cream House Open?
Wondering about the new Ice Cream House at Gatchell's? You're not the only one.
On Sunday, we received an email from a local resident who was curious about the construction project and decided to make it the focus of this week's You Ask...Patch Answers column.
They asked: "Can you look into what they're building for Grown Ups 2 on the grass over at Gatchell's? Is that a building that we'll be able to keep when film crews leave?"
Though Columbia Pictures film crews won't necessarily take the stand with them when they leave, the town isn't interested in keeping it anyway, Recreation and Parks Commission Superintendent Brendan Egan said Tuesday night.
Thanks to some Hollywood smoke and mirrors, the brightly-colored ice cream stand may look sturdy from the road - but the fact is there's really not much to it.
It may be stocked with ice cream, napkins, smoothies and spoons when Adam Sandler arrives to film scenes on Friday but the paper-thin stand off of Lafayette is without running water, electricity, and a true cement foundation.
"As they say, it is built to movie specs not New England specs," Egan said Tuesday, before admitting that "a lot of people have asked me when it is going to open."
The stand looks so realistic that commission Chairman Chip Osborne joked that he wouldn't be surprised to see "a long line of people looking for an ice cream cone."
