Fishing Boat Burns in Marblehead Harbor [VIDEO]

Shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, local firefighters requested a fire boat from Beverly to extinguish a burning fishing boat in front of Fort Sewall.

An early morning fishing boat fire in Marblehead Harbor Tuesday prompted local fire officials to enlist the support of the Beverly Fire Department's new fire boat to extinguish the blaze.

Shortly before 1 a.m., local firefighters received word that there was a fully involved fishing boat burning off of Front Street near Fort Sewall, according to a dispatcher from the Beverly Fire Department.

The fire, which was extinguished in about 15 minutes, drew two of Marblehead's fire engines to Front Street. A third fire engine was parked, accompanied by an ambulance, in the parking lot of The Landing Restaurant.

According to a police log issued Tuesday morning, the boat was a white and blue 1991 Terry Jason. Members of the Gloucester Police Department were sent to the owner's house to inform them that the boat had burned.

Tuesday's fire was Beverly's first opportunity to use the department's new fire boat, which arrived shortly after 1:30 a.m. and made quick work of the fire.

Marblehead Fire Chief Jason Gilliland, who was on scene, said Beverly firefighters "did an excellent job of knocking (the fire) down."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Gilliland said.
