The Story Behind Sandler's Headers Hat
Wondering where Adam Sandler got his Marblehead All Star hat?
When Tricia Rockett's kids noticed Adam Sandler wearing a Swampscott All Star hat during an appearance on the 2012 MTV movie awards earlier this month, they knew something had to be done.
"My son became upset, he said 'he should be wearing a Marblehead All Star hat,'" she said in an email Friday. Thankfully, her husband, Mike Rockett, who coaches little league baseball, had a few extras on hand.
"He went to his supply where we have extra hats from each year - and put five hats in a bag," Tricia Rockett said.
Sandler has apparently given in to the boy's demands. Hollywood, it seems, can't escape the storied rivalry between Marblehead and the Big Blue.
The towns both serve as shooting locations for Sandler and other celebrities, who will be in both towns filming scenes for the movie Grown Ups 2 this summer.
Since he arrived, Sandler has been seen wearing hats for both of the rival high schools on-set.
Rockett says her daughter was in charge of the note-writing, and then they set off for Sandler's home with a bag of hats and a message that read: "Dear Mr. Sandler, We saw you on TV wearing a Swampscott hat - we think you should be wearing a Marblehead All Star hat - where the design originated."
Along with the package, which was left on Sandler's front doorstep, Rockett said her children included their home address and cell phone number. Two days later, the Rocketts found a surprise message of their own.
"There was a nice note in our mailbox stating 'Love the hats neighbor! I will wear them with proud! Have a great summer - Adam Sandler'," Tricia Rockett said.
Since then Sandler has been seen wearing the hat on-set, at the premier of his new movie, That's My Boy, on David Letterman and most recently, the Today Show.
"It has been fun for the kids to see him in every picture with his Marblehead hat on," Tricia Rockett said, adding, "when he wears it backwards - the back of the hat in small lettering says: Marblehead!"
