TELL US: Who Should Run For Governor?

Governor Deval Patrick won't run again, and Lt. Gov. Tim Murray wants the job. So do Treasurer Steve Grossman and 2010 Republican candidate Charlie Baker. Who do you think should run for governor?

Lt. Governor Tim Murray couldn't hold out any longer. On Thursday, he told the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce he'd like to be governor, according to WBUR.

Mind you, he didn't say he would run, just that he wants to be governor. With the election two years away, starting an official campaign now would be a bit premature.

But Murray's not alone. Governor Deval Patrick has said he will not run in 2014, leaving the door open for Murray and a host of other suitors. State treasurer Steve Grossman and 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker have also expressed interest in a run in 2014. And it wasn't so long ago that Scott Brown was greeted with shouts of "Governor!" during his concession speech.

Who do you think should run for governor? Is there someone you think would make a great leader of the Commonwealth? Or do you want one of these Massachusetts heavyweights to square off for the corner office? Tell us in the comments below.

Mr. Murray's distinction of being the first person to pilot a Ford Crown Victoria above ground level with the shakiest of details suggests that he is not someone we want to trust our money, resources, and future with.

I really don't know. Anybody but Deval.

Because Deval has done such a horrible job with guiding the state toward the furture of STEM careers and maintaining a lower unemployment rate than most states in the Union.
But you're right, Deval was just awful. Shall we tar and feather?

Well say what you want, but we have the perfect candidate to run the state living here in Swampscott. But he will have a "R" after his name. He wouldn't be the guy to let the drug labs run wild and therefore force the release of criminals. He'd be the type to make sure that the Health Dept actually does its job with inspections and prevent viral menegitis from killing citizens instead of being a sheltered workshop for hacks. He would be the guy to clean up the probation department and not allow cop killers lose to kill another cop. He wouldn't squander our taxes on the likes of Everygreen and other fantasy industries, and he would probably pay our bills and fix the healthcare industry that is slowing being crushed under the weight of unfunded mandates and intrusive regulations. But alas, Murry has the only qualification that matters.....he has a "D" after his name, and a drivers license with no restrictions.

So that we carry on the tradition of 'D" at any cost, we must ask ourselves,
who is the most popular felon, fake indian princess or murderer. Hell, we can do better than Tim Murray, he is just a drunk driver. There are awards for that here in the Commonwealth.

Donna, we both should put our money on Murray, because for now, Baker doesn't have a chance. Unfortunately we have to wait for the house of cards to collapse before the others learn. Of course by that time, will it matter?

Lenny, Probably not. I cannot imagine what we will look like in 4 months let alone 4 years. Proctor and Gamble, Boeing, Gamestop, Hostess, all planning lay offs faster than I ever anticipated. While I feel it will get worse before better, America will survive. We survived bad Presidents before , we will survive the most destructive President in American history as well. Prez 0 legacy will prove to be a tragedy but
a powerful lesson for our grandchildren. Its just who we are! The ride will be costly, however!

You are probably correct Donna. The one thing that keeps me going is what we do have. We still have 48.5% of the voting citizens, more than 30 state governments, the US House, most of the money, and best of all, the Constitution. Try as they may, they can't get away with destroying the Constitution. All we have to do is wait for 2% of voters to smarten up. In the meantime the liberal facists will have to accept the fact that the "change they seek, ain't gonna come".

Well 59 million of us are sending you 62 million another message. We have the Constitution on our side, and you won't be able to take our stuff, nor destroy our society. (someday Obama may put the Constitution on his teleprompter and read it to you, his adoring rabble so that you can all learn its meaning). We are also sending you another message, and that is that you Democrats will start paying your fair share when the money runs out.

You will have to work, and you will have to start paying taxes, and you will have to start saving.

You will have to stop denying science when you learn that 747's can not run on batteries or wind power, and that we will continue with coal, oil, shale, and natural gas to lift people out of poverty.

You will stop denying science when you learn that life begins at conception (ask any 17 year old who buys a condom), that climate change is a continuum an not man-made, and that global warmists are members of a religious cult.

You will no longer get away with voter suppression by denying the military their right to vote.

But you can keep watching the lunatics on MSNBC for your faux news...I have no problem with that, because even lunatics need to feel there are people like them...you know, for their self esteem.

Those last 2 guys haven't worked electorate quite the way you want; I think we can both agree on that. Maybe you need to go out of state to recruit somebody. Mourdock and Akin are looking for gigs. So is Allen West, oooh and he's black too! Residency wasn't a huge issue when the state republican party bamboozled Mittens onto to the ballot back in the good old days. It is you leftists that deny science PK. You don't seem to know when life begins, yet every 17 year old who buys a pack of condoms seems to know. Most people believe in evolution as a possibility....even the Pope....but it still isn't proven. There is still that 1.7 million year missing link. However in the leftist world, you believe that everything you see around you, the seasonal cycles, the oceans and the trees, the hair on your head, the human body able to function for 70-100 years....you all believe that it sprang from nothing. Despite the fact that no scientist has ever been able to create life from the dirt, or any form of life without living genetic material, your cult believes that all of what you see around you was the result of some cosmic accident that sprang from nothingness. Global warming....come on now. It may or may not exist....but to say uncategorically that is does is just a religious conviction of your cult no different than the Buddhist belief in reincarnation.

What do you readers make of this. I know of a man who wants to marry a woman with a child. Both went to Social Security and were informed that she and not he would lose her benefits .He said that doesn't make sense to either of them. Their reasoning was he would or she would have to give up one of the apartments that would save the S.S. system well over a thousand a month for S.S. . It now appears that they will be better off not marrying and both receive the bennies they were and are getting now. I think its needless to say it but the system needs to be fixed instead of spending money needlessly on them both when the S.S. system can save money if they would allow them to marry as one not two payees. Ah!! But then what the hell we have a great economy and can afford to foolishly spend our countries tax monies.!!

Why couldn't one of them or shouldn't one of them lose their benefits if they are going to be living together. When the rest of us working taxpayers got married, did we need two apartments? Didn't at least one of us go out to work? It seems to me it is a matter of what our side has been saying for too long. Once the culture of dependence is established.....once the intoxication of getting free stuff becomes irresistible.....it is hard to imagine the day when benefits have to be given up, even though they weren't earned. The guy you know and his wife to be, need to grow up and set a good example to her child by earning their own keep. Time to get off the government dole.

Lenny

8:08 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Sorry, I have no clue what your defense of them is. Unless there is a physical handicap preventing them from taking care of themselves, is there any reason why whatever loss of benefits they "suffer", can't be made up with......gee I dunno....like maybe getting a job? I don't get why they think they are entitled to go against convention and not marry simply to avoid having to pitch in to help society and provide for not only themselves, but maybe contribute a little through taxes to help pay for a few things.

Harry Birmingham

7:24 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2013

When they went to S.S. they weren't trying to screw us or the government . There intention was to see if what-- and-- if they would have to give up any thing. They say the system left them with no choice but to stay as they are. As was said prior to this the savings in giving up one rent alone was over a 1000 dollars when one or the other gave up the place they are now separately living in. The bennies the female and her child were getting would be very much nil or non existent if she were to marry. If they were to marry their income would be way less than what they now have separately to live on. You and I have our living standard[s] as they are now and get along with our existence even if it is hard doing it. This couple want to do the right thing but the government tells them the opposite and to ,without coming out really to say it, not to marry. Your right about your intoxication statement but not about them. One is of foreign birth and coming here the other is a born American. Both want to do what is right but you lump them with the true abusers, unwittingly so, not knowing their back rounds. If any one deserves the or any break it is this couple that do not like being on the dole as we say. They have no choice due to their circumstances, one more so than the other. What is forgotten here is that they can not work as you or I have for what we have gotten by having done so. There not abusers of our system as the illegals we have here that we all are opposed to.

Charlie Baker would have had the votes had the "pull the vote thing" not emerged. Now that the Lt. Governor's buddy is being indited it's pretty clear why Speed Racer is not "interested" in the job. Scott Brown would be interesting in that he sits more conservative-left than right or even centrist, so he'd be okay with the status quo without perhaps the "I need more of your money that I can waste on truly stupid idealistic things!" maneuvers of our current governor. We just need someone who can stop the partisan nonsense that Deval is wrapped up in, work between the parties (not that the Republican Party in Massachusetts couldn't drive to the statehouse in a Prius), and start fixing what's really wrong instead of throwing our good money at partisan projects.

I no longer vote in Mass. having moved north but I do have to agree that the states of Mass. & N.H. should heavily invest in the Toyota Prius for transportation use. The cost of mileage alone would save a fortune . Based on the Prius savings the pols who use their m/v's should be paid accordingly for their mileage to go back and forth to work. The only draw back is that the cars are light on the roads in the winter driving as compared to the warmer times of the year.
