Warwick Place Work Will Limit Parking
For the next few weeks, parking on Pleasant Street will be limited as progress continues at Warwick Place.
Work that began on the sidewalk in front of Warwick Place Monday morning is expected to last into mid-November and will mean slowed traffic and limited parking on Pleasant Street.
The upcoming sidewalk and sewer work will mean no parking on the Warwick side of Pleasant Street and a police detail may be necessary at times, according to a request unanimously approved by the Board of Selectmen at Abbot Hall Monday afternoon.
The request, made by the Salem-based Groom Construction Co., was passed on the condition that all work be completed by Nov. 20.
"That's two days before Thanksgiving - we know it's going to be crowded down there on the night before Thanksgiving - so just as long as you're gone by then," Selectman James Nye said prior to the vote.
When board members began to discuss what would happen if it looked like workers wouldn't make the Nov. 20 deadline, Town Administrator Jeff Chelgren said town officials would be willing to "push them" to wrap up on time.
At the same meeting, board members discussed a row of trees being planted along the building's rear parking lot and learned that the trademark Warwick Theater marquee would be replaced with a larger replica.
