Seniors Say Protect Social Security and Medicare
A small group of senior citizens from the North Shore joined activists from around the country to bring their message to Washington, D.C.
This is a letter to the editor from Barbara Mann
The voices of seniors were heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill and at the White House during a recent Senior Community Leaders Summit sponsored by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
I joined nearly 100 activists from around the country who poured into Washington with this message for our political establishment: Protect and strengthen Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
That means no cuts to benefits, no privatization, and no gimmicky calculations to take away the earned benefits seniors and their families desperately need.
It helps to be involved and have a say in the future of these important programs. It’s even better when we can come together with a strong show of force to say we expect our nation’s leaders to protect middle-class Americans by preserving these family focused income and health security programs.
