Police Cracking Down at Crosswalks
The following information was submitted by the Marblehead Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
The following is an excerpt from the Marblehead Police Department's log:
Wednesday, Aug. 29:
- At 7:48 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm on Washington Street.
- At 9:09 a.m., police responded to a parking complaint on Spray Avenue.
- At 9:48 a.m., police responded to a report of a hit and run accident at the intersection of Pleasant and Smith streets.
- At 10:43 a.m., police responded to a report of graffiti on a Turner Road playground.
- At 11:19 a.m., police responded to a parking complaint on Washington Street.
- At 11:28 a.m., a resident entered the police station to report that a credit card machine had been stolen from his 2006 Honda Civic.
- At 11:54 a.m., police were alerted to solicitors on Shorewood Road.
- At 6:15 p.m., state police called the station to report that a woman had called them about throwing her keys in the trash by mistake. The woman later came into the police station lobby and reportedly told officers "it was her teeth and she found them so she doesn't need (their) help anymore."
- At 6:53 p.m., two cars were ticketed near the intersection of Robert and Tully roads for parking illegally.
- At 7:21 p.m., a resident entered the police station to turn over a found wallet.
- At 9:13 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Commercial Street.
- At 10:11 p.m., police conducted a property check on Lighthouse Lane.
Thursday, Aug. 30:
- At 12:53 a.m., police and fire units responded to a reported roll-over accident on Lafayette Street. Police later arrested Glenn S. Freeman, 22, of 18 Tidewind Terrace, Marblehead, on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs (Adderall) and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. - At 5:17 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm on Everett Paine Blvd.
- At 9:07 a.m., police conducted a building check on Auburndale Road.
- At 9:09 a.m., a resident called police to report losing a pink Canon camera in a pink case sometime Friday at Crocker Park.
- At 9:30 a.m., a resident called police to report a fraudulent email.
- At 9:42 a.m., a woman on Ruby Avenue called police to report that there "was a man outside attempting to take (a) bike that was in front of her house." Responding officers later determined that it was just a misunderstanding.
- At 10:29 a.m., a resident on Powder House Court called police to report that her neighbor has been "acting oddly."
- At 10:31 a.m., a man called police to report that his dog had just been hit and killed by a truck on Longview Drive West. The dog was reportedly unlicensed and was off of its leash chasing a squirrel when it was hit and killed.
- At 10:33 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2012 Ford Fusion was ticketed for a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Commercial Street and Atlantic Avenue.
- At 10:46 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2003 Mercedes SE was given a verbal warning for committing a crosswalk violation on Atlantic Avenue.
- At 10:55 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 1994 Mercedes SE Cougar was ticketed for a crosswalk violation near the intersection of Commercial Street and Atlantic Avenue.
- At 10:59 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2009 Honda Fit was ticketed for a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Gerry Street.
- At 11:10 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2009 Toyota Prius was ticketed for a crosswalk violation on Atlantic Avenue.
- At 11:14 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2009 Toyota Corolla was given a verbal warning for committing a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Gerry Street.
- At 11:38 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2004 Volvo XC70 was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Wyman Road.
- At 11:40 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2009 Kia Rio was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Mohawk Road.
- At 11:40 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2000 Lexus SE was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Mohawk Road.
- At 11:59 a.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2008 Honda Civic was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation on Pleasant Street.
- At 12:00 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2005 Chevy Silverado was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation on Pleasant Street.
- At 12:01 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2012 Chevy Impala was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation on Pleasant Street.
- At 12:04 p.m., police responded to a report of a stuck box truck on Rowland Street.
- At 12:14 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2010 BMW SE was given a verbal warning for committing a crosswalk violation on Atlantic Avenue.
- At 12:16 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2006 Mini Cooper was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Gerry Street.
- At 12:25 p.m., police responded to a burglar alarm on Flint Street.
- At 12:30 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2002 Mercedes Benz was given a verbal warning for committing a crosswalk violation on Atlantic Avenue.
- At 12:46 p.m., police received word from members of the Swampscott Police Department that a local man had been involved in a serious accident and they were "looking for family to be notified." A woman reportedly called the station to get information about Christopher Tremblay, who had fallen from a porch in Swampscott and she was advised to contact Swampscott police. - At 1:03 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2010 Chevy Equinox was given a verbal warning for committing a crosswalk violation on Atlantic Avenue.
- At 1:23 p.m., police responded to a reported assault on Atlantic Avenue.
- At 2:10 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2003 Hyundai Elantra was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Pleasant Street.
- At 2:12 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2005 Ford Escape was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Ocean Avenue.
- At 2:18 p.m., a woman on Gregory Street called police to report that her car was gone. The vehicle was later located at the end of the street.
- At 2:36 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2008 Dodge Ram was ticketed for committing a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Pleasant and Smith streets.
- At 2:39 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2006 Pontiac Torren was given a verbal warning for committing a crosswalk violation at the intersection of Pleasant and Smith streets.
- At 2:46 p.m., police responded to a report of a disabled motor vehicle on Atlantic Avenue.
- At 2:50 p.m., police responded to a reported burglary on Devereux Terrace. The woman said her "son was at the house, heard a thump (and) looked out to see a car in the driveway and a ladder up to the second floor window." The son also reportedly told her a screen was off of the house and the woman noted that they were a previous victim of jewelry theft.
- At At 2:52 p.m., a woman on Watson Street called police to report that the lock had been changed on the home she's owned for 22 years. Police later learned that the woman has not paid her mortgage since 2010 and the bank may have taken her house back.
- At 2:54 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2008 Jeep Liberty was ticketed at the intersection of Smith and Pleasant streets.
- At 2:54 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2013 Audi SE was ticketed at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Baldwin Road.
- At 3:09 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 1997 Toyota Camry was stopped on Pleasant Street.
- At 3:20 p.m., as part of Operation Crosswalk, a motorist in a 2010 Jeep Wrangler was stopped on Pleasant Street.
- At 3:28 p.m., the Recreation and Parks and Recreation Director Brendan Egan entered the police station to report that someone had complained to him and taken photographs of "drug paraphernalia that was found in the grandstand at Seaside Park."
- At 3:47 p.m., a motorist in a 2002 Toyota Prius was given a verbal warning for failure to stop at the intersection of Pleasant and Prince streets.
- At 3:49 p.m., a motorist in a 1996 Chevy Blazer was ticketed on Pleasant Street.
- At 3:53 .m., a motorist in a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta was given a verbal warning on Pleasant Street.
- At 3:57 p.m., a resident entered the police station to report finding a ring on Widger Road.
- At 4:05 p.m., police responded to a burglar alarm on Lehman Road.
- At 5:26 p.m., a resident entered the police station to turn over a cell phone found on Atlantic Avenue.
- At 7:28 p.m., police responded to a burglar alarm on Ocean Avenue.
- At 10:15 p.m., police received word that a man who was recently banned from being in downtown Marblehead was hanging around Village Plaza on Pleasant Street.
Friday, Aug. 31:
- At 1:41 a.m., the Swampscott police department called for assistance with a man who was "found in their town walking from Watertown."
- At 3:36 a.m., a man on Walnut Street called police to report that a woman unknown to him "came into his house and asked if he was 'happy to get his hair done.'" Police later determined the woman had a mental health issue and released her to the care of her father.
