Marblehead High Fall Sports Preview

's cheerleading team kicked off the fall practice schedule last week, with conditioning and practices at the high school under coach Terrie Cook.

105 football players hit the practice field Monday afternoon for returning coach Jim Rudloff, with a scrimmage set for Saturday morning against Melrose.

"We're excited to get the season going," Rudloff said at practice Monday afternoon.

The Magicians open the season under the lights at home against Pentucket on Sept. 9.

Cross-Country

Four teams begin practice on Thursday, the boys and girls’ cross-country teams, the field hockey team and the golf team.

Boys’ cross-country coach Brian Heenan and girls’ cross-country coach Jenn Rodier will welcome their runners to the first team practice on Thursday at 7:55 a.m. at . The first meet of the season is Tuesday, Sept. 13, at home at 3:45 p.m. against Saugus; also at Gatchell’s Playground.

All of the cross-country teams' home meets this season, for both the boys and girls, will be held at Gatchell’s Playground. The boys' meets begin at 3:45 p.m., and the girls’ meets begin at 4 p.m.

Golf

Golf coach Jim Keating will assemble his team on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the high school, and then in the afternoon, the team will head to the Dilisio Driving Range to hit a few buckets of balls. The season begins at the Ferncroft Country Club against Danvers at 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 6. The golf teams’ home matches are at the and begin at 3:45 p.m.

Field Hockey

The field hockey team, under coach Linda Collins, will hold their first practice at on Thursday at 9 a.m. The team will travel to Newburyport to scrimmage the Clippers at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 31.

The field hockey team's home field is Seaside Park and all home games this season begin at 3:45 p.m. Junior varsity games will begin immediately after the conclusion of the varsity games.

Girls' Soccer

The girls’ soccer team's practice season gets underway at Hopkins Field at the Middle School, this Friday morning at 8 a.m. Coach Tracy DeLuca and her team will open up the 2011 season with a scrimmage at Hopkins Field at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 30, when they take on the Revere Patriots.

Boys' Soccer

Boys’ soccer coach Darren Benedick will meet the 2011 squad Saturday morning at Marblehead High School at 10 a.m. The boys will also open up the preseason with a scrimmage at Hopkins Field on Aug. 30 against the Ipswich Tigers.

Parents of Athletes:

There is a mandatory meeting for all parents of Marblehead fall athletes on Sept. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the Marblehead High School auditorium. The general meeting will begin in the auditorium, and then parents and coaches of each fall sports team will meet individually in assigned classrooms at the high school.
