Marblehead Frozen Yogurt Makes the Rounds at Massachusetts General Hospital

An Orange Leaf treat for a Marblehead girl — and all the night nurses in her unit.

Kiki Gilligan got a double helping of frozen yogurt goodness over the weekend.

The Marblehead girl was at Massachusetts General Hospital over the weekend for a "tune-up" — treatment for Cystic Fibrosis, said her mom, Amy Gilligan.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease affecting roughly 30,000 Americans and often attacks the digestive and respiratory systems.

While daughter and mom were at the hospital, Kiki's dad, Patrick, and her brother, Jackson, and sister, Alli, were at home with a plan.

They called an order in to Orange Leaf yogurt. Store owner Mike Hennessy assembled a frozen yogurt care package for Kiki and her brother and sister.

Then Patrick and Jackson and Alli sprang into action. They drove into Boston and delivered Kiki a surprise, her favorite frozen treat and the comfort of home.

That was treat number one for the Marblehead preteen.

The seocnd one came around 1 a.m. on Sunday. Kiki was receiving her night intravenous medication and had blood drawn and vitals checked when three nurses left her room only to come back and say someone was there to see Kiki.

The someone was Mike Hennessy. He has a giant card wishing Kiki well and a big order of frozen yogurt Kiki for all the night nurses in the 20-bed pediatric unit at Massachusetts General.

"Obviously, he didn't think we would be up," said Amy Gilligan. "So he was as surprised as we were."

They were surprised and grateful.

"How do you say thank you to someone who goes above and beyond?" Amy said. "Michael truly made a young girl feel special and the disease she shares with so many, at times, a badge of honor!"
