Firemen's Muster Draws Crowds
The Oko's and Gerry 5 veteran firemen's associations hosted an old-fashioned handtub pumping competition.
An old-fashioned firemen's muster and parade drew families out to watch some antique fire engines and a hand-pumping competition.
There were 12 engines, called handtubs, in the competition. From Marblehead, the Okammakamesit #2 and the Gerry 5 competed. Both clubs had a good turn-out of supporters. In the end, the "Okos" won class A by three inches, while Gerry came in second in class B and Atlantic 3rd.
The parade was held in honor of Wayne D. Martin, who was the foreman of the Gerry 5 Veteran Firemen's Association. Martin's family, including his sons Wayne Jr., Dirk, and Todd, paid tribute. Gerry 5 supporters wore black ribbons.
