Letter to the Editor: Cooking For a Cure
Here's a letter to the editor submitted by Vanessa Malfitano.
To the Editor:
The Muscular Dystrophy Association would like to take this opportunity to thank the Marblehead Fire Department and firefighter Tim Doane for the amazing success of their 4th annual “Cooking for a Cure” event held at the Danversport Yacht Club on Saturday.
11 North Shore Fire Departments pulled out all the stops to create their favorite firehouse recipes in a competition to capture bragging rights to awards like “Best Dish” and “Peoples Choice."
The event was attended by five families served by MDA who had a great time and expressed their thanks to the Firefighters for their support.
The evening resulted in over $16,000 being raised for MDA to help support MDA’s patient and community service programs, worldwide research and services such as clinic, support groups, orthopedic appliances and our very special summer camp program.
Congratulations to the following winners of the competition: Most Creative Dish- Lynnfield Fire Department; Best Dish -Marblehead Fire Department; People’s Choice and Avis Cup (Best Dept. over-all) – Melrose Fire Department.
We would like to thank all the teams of chefs from the Beverly, Essex, Lynn, Lynnfield, Marblehead, Melrose, North Reading, Salem, Saugus, Swampscott, Topsfield and Winchester Fire Departments who made this such a fun and successful evening.
Our special thanks to firefighter Tim Doane,a 21-year veteran of the Marblehead Fire Department and founder four years ago of the “Cooking for a Cure” event.
This year’s cook-off brings the total raised to over $48,000 by “Cooking for a Cure” and Tim hope to keep the event growing year after year.
Our final thanks are reserved for the residents who attended and businesses across the North Shore who were so generous in support of the area firefighters and MDA.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Malfitano, Executive Director MDA Boston North
