Harbor Prepares For Marblehead-to-Halifax Ocean Race

The 34th biennial Marblehead-to-Halifax Ocean Race will begin in Marblehead Sunday.

Marblehead Harbor is filling up with sailors from across the Northeast who are getting ready to set sail in the 34th biennial Marblehead-to-Halifax Ocean Race this weekend. 

The harbor is also filling up with local residents who are getting ready to celebrate the much anticipated sailing weekend. Guests are spread out among the , and and the launches will be busy shuttling them from club to club this weekend.

90 yachts are currently registered to take part in the 363 nautical mile race. Yachts from Canada, New York, Maryland and Connecticut have made the journey to Marblehead and have been steadily arriving all this week.

3. "Tumbleweed", a J122, owned by George Shaw of the Boston Yacht Club

4. "Ares", a C&C 40, owned by Linda Hosking of the Boston Yacht Club

5. "Saga", a J130, owned by Kris Kristiansen of the Marblehead Yacht Club

6. "Wester Till", an A&R Custom 48, owned by Fred Atkins of the Eastern Yacht Club

7. "Whisper", a Hinckley 48YL, owned by Thomas Vander Salm of the Corinthian Yacht Club

8. "Snowcat", a Freedom 40, owned by Bart Snow of the Boston Yacht Club

The start for the First Class of yachts will be signaled by cannon fire at 1 p.m. Sunday.
