Get out the cake, sing the song, Marblehead Patch is one year old today. Founding editor Katie Curley-Katzman, now Assistant Regional Editor for the North Shore, posted our welcome video to the site on May 28, 2010.

The first few months were spent building up our directory and establishing a working relationship with the schools, businesses and town officials that make Marblehead a one-of-a-kind community.

In March, the site was handed over to its new editor, Owen Boss, and earlier this month we successfully launched our new Blogging Platform, which already has a handful of local bloggers sharing their thoughts, feelings and expertise with other local residents.

In the 12 months that have passed since Katie posted our welcome video, Marblehead Patch has added more than 950 "likes" on Facebook and have 831 people who stay up-to-the-minute by following our Twitter feed.

We are excited to see so much has changed in the last 12 months and look forward to what the future holds for Marblehead Patch! Here are Marblehead Patch's picks for the top 10 news and feature stories since our website launched one year ago:

• Police Searching for Marblehead, Swampscott Bank Robber: On April 26, 2011, police sirens rang out across Marblehead as reports began coming in of a bank robbery at Bank of America on Pleasant Street. Marblehead Patch was among the first on scene and relayed up-to-the-minute information about the heist as it became available.
• Marblehead Boys' Hockey Crowned State Champs: On March 20, 2011, Marblehead High School's boys' hockey team won the Division III state championship at the TD Garden in Boston before a huge crowd of local fans. Marblehead Patch used Facebook and Twitter to keep those at home in the loop and had a photo gallery of their triumphant return to Marblehead.
• Voters Say No on All 10 Questions: On June 15, 2010, in a special town election, Marblehead residents sent a resounding "no" to town government. Voters turned down all 10 special election questions ranging from putting down an artificial turf field to building a new school. 
• A Royal Wedding: Earlier this spring, the eyes of the world were fixated on England and millions tuned in to catch the most recent royal wedding. The ceremony reminded many Marbleheaders of the fact that they had already seen one. In July, 2010, Marblehead's own Elizabeth Lynch married French count and lawyer Gonzague Mariede Montrichard of Paris. The glamorous affair started with a trip into Fenway, trolley tours into the city, a ceremony at Our Lady Star of the Sea, and a reception at the Lynch home followed by fireworks. 
• Local Teen Medflighted After Three-Story Fall: On April 7, 2011, 19-year-old Gleb Dozorets fell out of the third story window of a home on Pleasant Street. Marblehead Patch was among the first on scene and posted video of Dozorets being loaded into a waiting helicopter at Seaside Park and regularly posted updates on his condition at Mass General Hospital in Boston.
• Salem Harbor Power Station Closing: On May 11, 2011, Dominion  officially announced its intent to close Salem Harbor Power Station by 2014.
  In a media release, officials from the Virginia-based company said units 1 and 2 will shut down by the end of 2011. Two additional units and the entire station will close by June 1, 2014.
• Police Department Review: On Nov. 18, 2010, a report of the local police department released by an external organization found areas of improvement for officers and listed ways they could have handled the investigation into the death of Allie Castner differently. The report caused a considerable amount of controversy and upset residents and town officials who say the department's culture must change.
• Middle School Recognized for Higher MCAS Scores: On Sept. 14, 2010, Marblehead was included on a list of schools commended by the state, for showing growth in MCAS scores. The Middle School was cited for boosting achievement  and success in closing achievement gaps between students of different backgrounds. Marblehead results show the majority of students passed, with many passing above average. In addition, six students were accepted into MIT recently with several others getting into top tier schools, early decision.
• Board of Selectmen Thank Bill Woodfin II: On April 14, 2011, members of the town's Board of Selectmen took a moment to thank William L. Woodfin II for spending a quarter century serving Marblehead. Woodfin, who has served on the Board of Selectman for 13 years and spent 25 years as a member of an assortment of other boards and commissions, said the greatest gift was being able to serve the town he loves.
• Residents React to Osama bin Laden's Death: The day after President Barack Obama announced that Osama bin Laden was killed in a raid on a compound in Pakistan, Marblehead Patch caught up with local residents, some of whom headed to Memorial Park to show their respects for the local residents lost on September 11th.
