Hamilton Stripped of Athens Gold

Tyler Hamilton was officially stripped of his Athens gold medal Friday.

Local cyclist Tyler Hamilton, who accused Lance Armstrong of doping in an interview on CBS's 60 Minutes last year, has officially been stripped of the gold medal he won in Athens in 2004.

On Friday, the International Olympic Committee award the gold to the next finisher, Viatcheslav Ekimov of Russia; American Bobby Julich was upgraded to silver and Michael Rogers of Austraila claimed the bronze, Reuters reported.

Hamilton initially came under investigation by the IOC during the Athens olympics, when a doping sample indicated he had tested positive for a blood transfusion, according to the report.

Hamilton reportedly tested positive a month later at the Spanish Vuelta and after serving a two-year suspension, he returned to cycling but tested positive again for a banned substance in 2009 and was banned from cycling for eight years.
