Gatchell's Groomed for Grown Ups 2

is getting spruced up courtesy of Columbia Pictures, who will close Lafayette Street Friday to film scenes for the star-packed Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2.

Though Gatchell's new "Ice Cream House" will have to be taken down when film crews leave, Recreation and Parks Commission members were thrilled to discuss some recent alterations to the park at their meeting inside the Tuesday night.

Parks Superintendent Brendan Egan was happy to report that the fence lining the baseball field nearest to Lafayette Street has now been topped with a new plastic cover - a small detail that commission member Linda Rice-Collins said made the field look "really sweet."

Also in preparation for Friday's scene, Egan said workers from the recently installed an 'on/off' switch on the lights that illuminate the park's rear fields.

Before the switch was put in and the box was locked, Egan said the lights could be turned on by anyone who pushed the button - though they could only be kept on until 9:30 p.m.

Filming on Friday is expected to shut down Lafayette street until about 1 a.m. on Saturday morning and film crews are expected to need the lights well after 9:30 p.m.

"Electric light went in and put in the on/off switch and we will probably keep it that way for a while," Egan said.

On Wednesday, Columbia Pictures Location Manager Mark Fitzgerald that a handful of parks employees will be needed to manage the scoreboards and lights while a scene is shot at the baseball field.

Now, it looks like some local athletes will be called in to help out as well.

"They've contacted youth baseball and we are going to have a couple of teams playing mock games down there for as long as they need them to," Egan said Tuesday.

So far, Egan said he has been very happy with how well Columbia Pictures has treated the spaces they've used at , and .

"Anything I’ve gotten a call on, whether it was at Gatchell's or at the beach, they’ve been very responsive and they’ve really done a great job keeping everything clean," Egan said. "They've been excellent."
