President George Washington visited Marblehead on Oct. 29, 1789 with the Marquis de Lafayette.
President Andrew Jackson is said to have visited Marblehead in the 1830s.
President Chester Arthur had the most eventful visit to Marblehead of any U.S. chief executive — an enthusiastic resident effectively kidnapped him in 1882 by taking the reins of the president's carriage and driving him to Abbot Hall.
President Calvin Coolidge aboard a yacht (not the one he visited Marblehead on, however.) Coolidge visited Marblehead Harbor on July 4, 1925 in the presidential yacht Mayflower. He also visited the Rockmere Hotel in 1926.

Throughout U.S. history, presidents have visited Marblehead.

In honor of Presidents Day 2013, here is a gallery of commanders-in-chief who have paid call upon the town (although one did so against his will).

For more on each visit, including the details about how President Chester Arthur was "kidnapped" by a zealous Header, visit Marblehead Magazine's timeline of local history.
