I absolutely say yes! When I first moved here in 2002 there was a small one at Gatchel Park and then it went buh bye. I would love to see a new park come in so that I can get my skate back on!

Definitely!!!! It would give the kids a place to go skate and meet up with friends - and it would be much safer!!! I know there was a problem with vandalism in the past - but honestly - I really think the kids would appreciate it and would respect the fact that they have it! How realistic is this possibility I am wondering? and where could it be located???

As a skateboarder, and employee of the late Brickhouse Skateshop, I know that it is imperative that Marblehead should have a skate park. There have been three parks in town over the last eight or ten years. Gatchell's Playground, The Horseshoe (filled in with dirt and stone, it is now the Marblehead dog park on Lime Street,) and in 2009-2010 the Orne tennis court which was operated by Brickhouse when we were based at 120 Pleasant. Unfortunately with no park and no shop we all have nowhere to go. Our once beautiful and productive community has been left crippled by nonacceptance. Having a skate park would be productive for the skateboarders in town, the parents of those kids who don't have to drive out of town to let their kids have fun, and the stores in town will gain some business selling food and drinks to locals and people who come in from out of town to visit the park.

I really wish we did and would love to be involved with public awareness, location scouting and fundraising. I'm driving to Beverly quite a bit to bring my kids over to theirs (which they love) and it is nice the Y is making an effort with a skate 'area' but it's very small and kids can't get there by themselves since it's almost out of town.

Absolutely!!! I have three children, all grown now 17, 20 & 22....and I truely feel that once the kids turn 15 or 16, they are then forgotten, unless they play hockey, football, or the other...not all kids are into those sports and they need a place to go. My son is an avid skateboarder and I support his love for it, 100%...that's HIS sport, what he loves to do...It won't keep them completely out of the street because that comes with the freeness of it, but I believe they deserve their place to go without having to leave town...They need space, too.
As for a movie theatre...definately!! Why not?? Give our town something else to do without it having to be going to the bars all the time. We need options & keeping in our town means not having to benefit another town...Keep It Local...Give our kids some productive entertainment.

I believe a skate park is a wonderful idea. In a previously posted comment, there was concern about "doing something without going to bars all the time". Here's a short list-volunteer in the community, join a book club, learn something new (the marblehead y offers many classes), bird watch, hike or as we are surrounded by water...swim. There is plenty to do as my father would say. You just have to use your brain and your imagination.

As noted, the Town has had a skate park in the past. Most people supported it. Unfortunately, the kids who used it trashed it regularly. Unless, the kids commit to not trashing the area every week, a skate park will never be realistic.

Doesn't anybody know how the places that have successful skate parks manage to keep them from being regularly trashed? It's unlikely that we have a worse bunch of skateboarders, so is it supervision, non-trashable construction, or what? The Rec and Park ought to find out.

One problem may be that many people support lots of things unless they have to be paid for through taxation.

It just hit me: the vacant lot at the former lead mills site would be a fine place for a skate park.
