Abbot Hall

This popular landmark has not changed much.

The center of town business, Abbot Hall is also part museum. It is home to the original Spirit of '76 painting by Archibald MacNeal Willard, the deed to Marblehead from the Nanapashemet tribe of Native Americans (dated 1684), and a number of historical artifacts and paintings.

The clock in the tower of Abbot Hall was installed in 1877 and is governed by a 10 foot pendulum escapement, driven by an 86 lb weight.

In this image of Abbot Hall, you will see a clear view of  the tower as you come from downtown on Washington Street. Today, the  tree in the image, is much taller, making this view not as clear.

Luckily, not much has changed about Abbot Hall - true of many historical sites in Marblehead and part of the town's charm.
