The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 10 a.m. Otherwise it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. (sunrise, 5:50 a.m.; high tide, 10:19 a.m.; low tide, 4:11 p.m.; sunset, 7:44 p.m.)

3. The Marblehead Forever Committee will meet this afternoon in the Selectmen's office at Abbot Hall. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m., is expected to feature a discussion about plans to celebrate the return of gold medal winner Kayla Harrison.
5. Today in History: On Aug. 15, 1812, The Battle of Fort Dearborn was fought between United States troops and Potawatomi at what is now Chicago, Ill.
