1. It will be a beautiful day in Marblehead today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 76. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. (sunrise, 5:37 a.m.; low tide, 8:23 a.m.; high tide, 2:40 p.m.; set, 8:01 p.m.)
2. The town's Board of Selectmen will meet this afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of Abbot Hall. According to the meeting's posted agenda, board members will meet with Finance Director John McGinn.
3. The Spirit of '76 Bookstore will donate 20 percent of all sales made between 6 and 8 p.m. tonight to the Friends of Marblehed's Abandoned Animals.
4. There will be Wednesday Night Sailboat Racing in the harbor tonight from 5 to 9 p.m. Participants meet at the Marblehead Yacht Club.
5. Today in history: On Aug. 3, 1936, Jesse Owens won the 100 meter dash, defeating Ralph Metcalfe, at the Berlin Olympics.
