Effective July 1, 2010 home sharps, as well as unopened packages of hypodermic needles and lancets, shall not be disposed of in solid municipal waste, including household waste, and shall be collected and disposed of in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Medical Waste Regulations 105 CAMERA 480.125."


The Marblehead Board of Health is a Sharps Collection Center and will accept sharps, lancets and unopened packages of hypodermic needles from residents provided these items are brought into the Board of Health office in approved rigid, leak-proof, puncture resistant, and shatterproof sharps disposal containers. (In Marblehead sharps containers may be purchased at the Village Pharmacy or Eaton's /Walgreens Pharmacy.) The Board of Health will NOT accept sharps in glass containers, plastic or paper bags. Sharps may be brought to the Board of Health office during regular business hours. Please do NOT leave sharps unattended when no one is present in the office.
